ABORIGINAL TOURS
“…making up some “traditional” dampers…”
Hello, down there in Aussie Land …I was reading your great little web site. Love it, mate!
I must tell you a story of what happened when we visited Alice Springs about one year ago. We wanted the real thing. No tourist stuff for us. So we went on one of the “Aboriginal tours.” When the tour was almost over, the Aboriginal guy took us to a camp place in the bush where some women were making up some “traditional” dampers (is that the right word? Sort of big, flat scones). One of the women in our group wanted to know how they made the flour, etc. She asked the Aboriginal cook: “Where do you get the flour from?” And the Aboriginal girl said: “We get ours from Woolworth’s supermarket.”
