BLUE ROCK
“…when it was blue…”
From K. Smythe (Scotland):
We have watched with interest the development of your web site … My fiancee and I back-packed through Central Australia last year. In Alice Springs and, while staying in Alice Springs, we noticed a lovely photo of Ayers Rock that was photographed when it was blue. It was being sold for more than we could afford. Was this photo genuine? Does Ayers Rock sometimes turn bright blue like that?
REPLY: Well, you make up your own mind. This majestic monolith inspires mythology in its breath-taking beauty and the wild, extravagant varieties of its moods. Literally millions of tourists have journeyed to the site over the years to personally witness its glories, its changing colours and ancient mystery, and nearly all of these visitors carry away with them their own concepts and impressions, real and concocted. At different times, on different days, in different weathers (and depending of your state of sobriety), the Big Rock can miraculously turn from brilliant red to brown, to pink, yellow, orange, and, in the wet, even silver. Below you will note a most unusual view of Ayers Rock (Uluru), taken on Robbie Burns’ birthday.
