“…voices take on a silly Yankee twang…”

I went to that Tamworth Country Music Festival (or whatever it’s called) and I must say I wasn’t much impressed. Nearly all the well-known Australian country singers these days sing like Yanks. Maybe they don’t even realise it, but their singing voices take on a silly Yankee twang that sounds really stupid. What are they trying to do? Sell their recordings to the American market? Whatever it is, I wouldn’t buy any of their sham Yankee stuff, not even if they dropped the price to a cent. About the only singers who perform with genuine accents are the late Slim Dusty and John Williamson. Most of the others, I reckon, are just posers and copiers without any originality.
